Next, I decided to reconfigure the whole rig for regular bitcoin just to see how it would do. Found a mining pool and let it run overnight. When I checked it in the morning, I had solved a whole 1 hash. You need to solve way more than that to mine bitcoin. To put this in perspective, you can pick up a USB Litecoin miner that will push 1Mhash/s for less than $100 online. And those run on less than 5watts. My whole rig sucked up 400watts just to get a mere 250kh/s. It was a fun learning experience, but there is no way you could turn that approach into a profit. Don’t mine on a laptop.
